Culture Secretary visits EJBF

Culture Secretary Angus Robertson attended his first official concert today, visiting Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival to support exciting young Scottish talent. He was joined by Matt Carmichael (BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year finalist ), Fergus McCreadie (also a BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year finalist), Charlie Stewart (Winner: Young Traditional Musician of the Year ), bass player Ali Watson, drummer Tom Potter, Jason Rust (Chair, Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival), and Fiona Alexander (Producer, Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival). “It has been a pleasure to attend the world-class Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival, one of the ten largest jazz and blues Festivals in Europe. “The return of the festival comes after what has been an incredibly challenging time, and so I am thrilled that the Festival is bringing audiences together to hear live music once again. “Meeting the challenge of putting on such an exciting programme in a Covid-safe way really goes to show the passion and resilience of everyone who has made this happen.” (Angus Robertson, Culture Secretary)

New Edinburgh Jazz School

An exciting opportunity designed for musicians of all ages who want to improve their jazz playing and meet other jazz lovers! Leading young jazz pianist, Fergus McCreadie and his team of top class professionals, will cover the foundations of jazz harmony, rhythm, and improvisation, in a group context. You should have a command of your instrument. Sight reading ability is preferred, but not essential.

We are very excited to present an online Festival to mark the dates of the 2020 Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival. 10 Young Jazz Musicians to Watch

More than ever Scotland can boast a monstrously talented constellation of star young players who have emerged on the jazz scene in the last couple of years. Many have grouped around the Conservatoire in Glasgow, and play on a regular basis around the many bars and clubs in the city. Here’s a new list that spotlights ten of the many young artists who making waves today with the sheer quality of what they produce or who are pushing jazz forward into new, experimental directions.
