These five concerts are all very different, but all showcase the incredible talent on display across the world.
Ireland's Improvised Music Company present Blind Date Jazz, which brings listening and creative improvisation into focus, with pairs of Ireland’s leading improvisers coming into the studio to create an exciting, new, musical conversation. The twist? Neither musician has any idea who they are playing with.
Luxembourg's Kultur LX are showcasing three bands. Reis Demuth Wiltgen are a piano trio delivering European-romantic and energetic if not experimental New York-style jazz; singer Claire Parsons creates, mature, crafted and emotional compositions embracing jazz, folk, electro, pop, rock to classical music infuences; and navigating the cutting edge between atmospheric jazz and electronic melancholy, KLEIN is led by keyboardist Jerome Klein.
We alos have two great shows from Italy:
Novara Jazz Festival present Beatrice Arrigoni Quartet - a contemporary jazz quartet who draw on both the European and American jazz tradition; Anais Drago, a rising start who EJBF audiences met in 2019 as she joined the stage playing with the incredible Gonzalo Bergara and Luca Aquino brings a solo trumpet projet called 'Icaro Solo' whihc was recorded in the in the ancient deconsecrated church of Sant’Agostino.
Italian Music Export also bring us a triple bill of jazz. Italian double bass player Michelangelo Scandroglio is surely one of Italy’s young rising stars. In 2020, he released 'In The Eyes of the Whale' with Auand Records, his debut album as a leader and he plays music form it here; multi-jazz award winner Fabio Giachino (who played at EJBF live in 2019 with his trio) creates fresh, intelligent, and enthralling new takes on the modern jazz piano tradition and Ferdinando Romano is a double bass player, composer and improviser who was awarded Best Italian Rising Star in the Top Jazz 2020 (Musica Jazz’s annual Critics Poll).
Finally, from Taiwan, Vincent Hsu & Harlem Inc. present 'Harlem Legacy: Back to St. Nick’s Pub', an homage to St. Nick’s Pub, one of the oldest continuous operating jazz clubs in Harlem, and the home of many historic, late night Jam sessions.
