Inspired by video game music, hip-hop beat-making, and the greats of 70s jazz fusion, Kai Reesu is a freshly formed ensemble from Glasgow, aiming to forge a new space between jazz and hip hop. At its core is the trio interplay of Paul Copeland (keys), Robert McArthur (bass), and Matt Jim Sim (drums) collaborating with Los Angeles-come-Leith-based rapper Jurnalist and enhanced by a heavyweight horn section featuring Michael Butcher, Adam Jackson, and Harry Weir, along with Alex Palmer on percussion. Blending elements of hip-hop, neo-soul, and old-school fusion, Kai Reesu delivers strong instrumentals with lush textures, hard-hitting grooves and rap-based tracks that span Boom Bap, Conscious Hip Hop, and Grime. In April 2024, they released their debut EP Brake Even, showcasing their distinctive blend of genres.
