Chris Lyons | Phil Bancroft's Beautiful Storm

Phil Bancroft is a saxophonist whose playing is as bold and expressive as it is lyrical. For his new project The Beautiful Storm, he is joined by two of his long-time collaborators, Indian tabla player Gyan Singh and Scottish guitarist Graeme Stephen. This music is instilled with deep understanding of contemporary Jazz, Celtic, Western and Indian Classical Music, with equal joy taken in the groove and flow, woven into musical journeys of rare emotional depth and beauty.

One of Scotland's most highly regarded pianists, Chris Lyons opens the evening with a solo performance featuring music from the first volume of a new solo piano project, due for release this year. With an encyclopaedic knowledge of both the jazz vocabulary and the classical repertoire and a fearsome technique to boot, expect a set packed with exciting, spontaneous music-making that straddles the worlds of jazz and classical music.
